Default Foot controller is making a hissing noise?

I'm afraid to use it!

When I sew it sounds like tin can clashing together when the needle goes up and down.

I just bought it!

Did I get a lemon or am I just not used to sewing with a metal machine?

It's a Singer Nostalgia Sphinx model.

Kind of wondering if I shouldn't have bought it now...

Is that one of the brand new treadles from Singer? If so...while they don't have a great reputation, it's likely that it just needs some lubrication. Look in your manual for oiling points for the machine itself and then follow the metal pieces down to the foot pedal. Oil every place where there is a joint with metal on metal. Use only sewing machine oil or Tri-Flow (do not use 3-in-1 oil or WD40). See if that quiets it down.

After you first oil the pedal, you might want to put a rubber mat or something under it to catch any drips so that you don't oil your floor.

Good luck.

If it's a hinged pedal, it could be that you simply need to oil the screws in the hinge.

If the machine is within the 30day return policy also return to store where purchased. Tinker

Hope you unplugged it. Something is very wrong, take it back.

It's a teeny bit quieter now. It does make a nice stitch. I guess I'm just not used to sewing on it yet.

It seems to be settling down a bit now.

My mom had an old machine that would show blue light in the pedal.

It's just kind of freaking me out.

I oiled the joints and whatnot and I'm watching videos about it. It sounds a bit quieter now-might just be a placebo effect though.
