    Default Math help needed

I'm piecing a Blooming Nine Patch for my daughter. I changed the size of the patches/blocks to 5 inches (unfinished). The pattern calls for 8 colors but I have 12 so I can get it to a max width of 100 inches. I'm working on color 7 and have the whole thing laid out in the garage so my daughter could see the progression of colors she purchased. Since I can't sew the on point rows together until I get the patches and blocks sewn/cut AND I changed the size of the blocks AND the actual pattern width is 72 inches and I need 100 AND my brain is fried from making nine patches, can anyone help me figure out how many rows/colors are needed to the width I need? I have pieced plenty of on point comfort quilts, but never a king size. What was I thinking when my daughter's husband picked out this pattern??? I so wish the picture would load for you to see it because it will be a stunning quilt. Depending on how the sizing goes from here on out, I can leave out a color OR double up on the last color as we bought much yardage of that last row. Thank you.

I am by no means a math wizard nor am I familiar with that particular pattern but here goes. If I take 100 inches wide and divide by 4.5 inches (finished size of your block) I get 22.22222 so I would do 23 blocks wide if you plan to have no borders. Or go down to 22 blocks if that works out better to get to the length you need and then do a border or 3 to get to the actual finished size you need.

I'm sure others more familiar with the pattern and better at math will be along shortly.

    Good luck.

That math doesn't work out for on point piecing. That's why I'm in such a quandry about this. And I'm trying to get to the 100 inches without borders. I would be willing to pay someone to put the pattern into EQ, or send some yardage for their time.

i got out my EQ... i chose 4.5" blocks and increased rows and columns until over 100". this one is 102" without the border. 16x16 and then you have to put in the setting triangles. i used plain blocks and didn't finish coloring it... i'll leave that to you

measure your unfinished 5 inch block from point to point (diagonally) and then divide 100 inches by that number

Nancy you are the jewel in the crown of quilting. Thank you so much. It's just what I needed. May I gift you with some yardage?
