Why use flower head pins?

Flat head pins are necessary to do stack-n-whack quilts. When doing stack-n-whack quilts, normally you have (for example) eight layers of fabric cut on the design repeat of the fabric. So you have eight exact repeats on top of each other. You take the pin and pin through one design in that repeat lining it up at that same design on each of the other seven pieces of fabric in the layer and pin. After you have done this in numerous places, you take your ruler and cut through all eight layers in a particular way. These pieces form a kaleidascope. In order for your ruler to lay flat and not roll or move, you must have flat head pins.

Just because they are so darn cute! I also bought mine when doing a OBW, the book said you should have them and I am glad I got them even if I only used for that quilt (have done about 7) but I also saw to use sharpies on them and use for numbering or direction. So yes I have some and the times when I need them I LOVE them

I LOVE the flower (yellow Dritz brand) pins.
Mainly because:
1) They are thinner
2) They are longer
3) I can see the "flat" side easier than the pins with ball heads.
This is just my PERSONAL preference though.

I like the flower head pins because they are thinner and longer then other pins. If you accidentally sew over a pin head it doesn't mess up your machine. I bought mine when I was doing OBW so I could lay my ruler on top of them to cut 6 layers. When pinning seams they cause less distortion in the fabric and the fabric lays flatter. Love my flower head pins!

Oh sorry-I forgot that you can't look without registering. I hate sites like that. Anyway massdrop has group buys. The more people join a group buy, the lower the price goes. Some buys have limits. I guess Tula Pink ocean-type fabric is popular because it had a limit and sold out within minutes.
