Tastes change over the years. Although I hate to see them (or any antique furniture) painted too there is a bright side. A paint job at least keeps things in use as opposed to in the landfill or fire. We don't complain about the stuff that's destroyed because we never see it.
Right now we're a definite minority. Most people don't see the value of old sewing machines or their cabinets as anything more than decorations or plant stands.
"People actually sewed with those things?"

Here is the question. With that machine put in that not at all matching stand. What were they TRYING to use it for and did they put too much wear on the machine?

Not the first Necchi I've seen in an industrial table.

Does that mean you're tempted?
Here's another good deal: http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/atq/5118767459.html
A $75 featherweight. No case though. Close to home but no extra cash.

I've got a headache from looking on eBay - seems you get one totally misinformed seller - and others use that info to determine what they have!

Today, I've seen several top clamp greist attachment sets (with cardboard liner, so later ones) listed as SINGER Late 1800's. One is even says "Standard" and the sellers says its a standard Singer set . . . At least I hope most people with Singers would be smart enough to know that a top clamp set for Standard won't fit their machine.
