Unfortunately no giraffes were sighted. But every evening at dusk we were treated to a spectacle of hundreds of thousands of fruit bats flying around the main road and roosting in the trees. This is concentrated around a hospital, local legend has it that the bats showed up a number of years ago when a local chief took ill and was brought to the hospital. The bats stood vigil but the chief died and so the bats never left.
