Look on generations quilts, they have many nice paper pieced patterns to download, enter snails trails

So many opinions, and they're all good. Visually, the first option does look a little more like waves, but I tend to like the second and third versions more. The quilting will make a difference, too. Beautiful idea!

I love #3. Plus, fewer colors = easier to piece.

If you're just looking for a piecing tutorial (not cutting dimensions), this is a great video:

I would try to piece it first. I am not into paper piecing, so I'd try regular piecing first.

I really like the first one best, that being said I have made the snail trail block a number of times but not once did it the paper piecing method. So you can make it either way points match easily.

My first reaction was #1, then read posts and went back to take another look... I really do not think you can go wrong...pick your favorite and go for it. It is sure to be a lovely gift.

How interesting the way we all look at these blocks. I thought #2 and 3 looked more like waves while many others thought #1. Isn't it great how we see things differently?!

If anyone has cutting directions for regular piecing (not pp) for a block that ends up about 9" I would appreciate it.
