have you tried half.com? it is the e-bay site for books, movies, games, etc. prices are VERY cheap and shipping is $3.49 each. Prices for lots of quilt books is $ .75 each if they have several or the books have been in print for some time.

Good luck in finding what you are looking for. Sounds like the beginning of a whole new design phase and who knows where that will lead you! Just remember, we'll be looking to see what you have done.

    How about this: http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/~mcoahran/BargelloSketcher/

It's not a book but perhaps by playing with values, you can start to see a pattern emerging and it will become more intuitive?

Eileen Wright's "Twist and Turn" is a great book with various patterns. I am working on her "Surf Song" pattern which is a wall hanging size in the book. However, I was lucky enough to get some advice from the designer on how to enlarge this to a lap quilt size. I basically cut my stripes wider to add length and then will add more rows to the sides for added width. Not knowing which pattern you are interested in, I don't know if this will work for you or not. Good luck!

I love your avatar also. I would really enjoy seeing a larger picture and a few close-ups. I looks like you are a pretty accomplished quilter!

how about making four of the design without boarders then add borders to make the size you are looking for. Here is a not too good sample of what I mean for the center

Would you prefer to try making a small version (say, a wall quilt) for a different room in your house, before making the time and money commitment of starting with a bed size? If you like the construction, then the wall quilt would not be a waste of time. If you hate it, it still wouldn't be a waste of time because you learned something . I would pay for the pattern if it came in the exact size I wanted; having someone do the math and figure it all out (not to mention the design work) would be worth the $ to me.

I did make my avatar and I might say I nearly pulled every hair out of my head doing it! It is a Jacqueline De Jonge design that I made with my own choice of batiks and started out as a 60" square. I added a ton of borders and some New York Beauty blocks in the outside corners and by doing this I was able to morph it into a king size. I have made possibly 8 quilts and would consider myself a bit driven to "push the envelope" but I only helped with designing some of the quilting. That took the talents of a super long arm operator.

Here are a few pictures that a couple of you asked to see.

What a great solution to what I thought might be a very difficult project. Thanks!
