I love Tartan's post and also Stashelf's suggestion. Why can't I be that smart? LOL

For those who didn't understand the purpose behind my original post, this is where I got the idea.

If you get it from this site, I'd suggest the UCP Army Digital Camoflage Fabric CAMO710; however, as a Marine Mom, I agree that you should make something brightly colored that she can keep in her room. My daughter spent a year in Afghanistan, and she said she got enough camo and sand color in her daily life; when she was at "home", she wanted to be reminded of home.

Why not contact them for the fabric. They only ask that you pay for shipping fabric.

They have the fabric I used for my son who is over there. It matches his uniform

I agree that color would be better. You could even go to the Quilts of Valor or similar website and get pattern ideas. They do have a few free patterns. I think Island Batik even offers a free pattern, since they have some QOV fabric.

I understand now. Still wanted to clarify for you that they are not toting this around in the desert. It would take the place of the wool Army blankets that are standard issue to soldiers to use in the barracks. They typically would store items in a trunk at the foot of their bed (footlocker) when deployed. The story about carrying around backpacks & sleeping bags reminds me of ROTC exercises. It seems to be something that soldiers do while stationed in the US (where camo would be much more exciting). Either way, though, I'm sure your adopted soldier will be thrilled to receive such a thoughtful gift from "home".

The Camo Quilt site says they use actual surplus uniform fabric. Here's a link to a store located in Houston & Pasadena, TX that carries a digital print of the uniform fabric. They also accept online orders: http://www.armysurplusworld.com/prod...roductID=50552

Wikipedia: Current camo uniforms. Has pictures. Click on US Army, those two patterns will pop up. Then, when you find what you're looking for, just google with the pattern name, or try www.navajo-fabrics.com.
