If you have some old men's insulated underwear that works well for an internal layer and is soft and not crinkly.

I recycle every thing I can, so I save all my old ironing board covers and then use them (I have a couple of friends who have saved ironing board covers and given them to me too). I have also used the quilted mattress pad covers too. Again they need to be clean, but you can sandwich these between batting.
