The designs and materials are very "period," but still charming. I'm sort of astounded that you were able to track down the original pattern, but, lucky you, you're going to be able to create a new version. You could change the border pinks to blue, if you have a grandson for whom to make the new one.

What a wonderful heirloom quilt. Can't wait to see your reproduction in modern applique. I have a couple "stamped" transfers I have been holding onto for the same purpose. (One is an alphabet and the other a Sunbonnet Sue) I would never get them done in embroidery, so thought applique would be the way to go for me.

Yes, definitely a sweet quilt! So cute and babyish looking, nowadays it seems they don't want the baby things to look babyish, but I like that look!

Oh no, I misspoke. I meant embroidery, not applique. But your idea of doing them in applique is very interesting.

This must surely bring back many happy memories . These quilts were made so lovingly and we all appreciated things back then as fabrics and thread weren' t so plentiful. I have a few small crochet items that mean the world to me as everyone is gone who made them.

When you hand embroidery, do you sew just the one layer or after the quilt has been sandwiched?

My grandmother made me a good sized whole cloth quilt, pink with blue and gray kittens that was tied.
It was quickly whisked upstairs to the boys dorm, the next time I saw it was in shreds and probably thrown out. Wished my mom would have saved that for me. Bigger Point being for you---what a great keepsake and quilt!!
