The bottom is 3/16 laun (door skins) sold in 4' x 4' or 4' x 8' sheets at the big box stores. This particular box has a 1/4 round molding allowing no inletting of the bottom. It's glued and nailed then I applied the molding.

Thanks for the tute, Rodney! I like the use of plywood for the interior posts - that should last, oh, about 150 years!

You've inspired me. I'm going to make up a base using pine or teak I recovered from some very nice dressers that different neighbors discarded due to damaged drawers. I'll be using my vintage Millers Falls ACME Langdon miter box to cut the miters...need to keep the vintage vibe going!
