So cute! I love the fabrics you used too. I don't think yours need any decorating. They are perfect the way they are. Thanks for the video link

Thanks so much for posting this! Love the plaid one- so traditional. I received one of these from a friend in the mid-80s. When I opened the box, my friend's face became distorted and then she started laughing hysterically, doubled over. She had cut the pieces upside down!!!! She offered to take it back and make another one. I said NO! Everyone holiday season when I pulled it out to decorate, I was reminded of those days when we lived close to each other developing our friendship.

This tutorial shows the same process. The big difference is that in the Youtube one she just says to cut matching triangles -- any size you want -- whereas this tutorial link has you draw branches and cut out the fabric with branches. Otherwise the method is exactly the same. Personally, I like the triangles. For me, simpler is always better.

i love this site - I get so many ideas from all of you. My youngest will be on the east coast for a few years and working insane hours at a hospital from now til january. This will be the first christmas that our family will not be together. Christmas decorating and taking care of a tree will not be a priority for her. I think I will make several of these trees out of her favorite fabrics (dr. who, harry potter, snowmen, etc) and a small table topper and send them to her. That way she can have decorations without the time or effort and feel a connection to us. This will also be a perfect setting for her 'gifts'. We have made a box full of small items numbered as sort of an advent calendar thing, so she can open one a day. (She will also miss out on thanksgiving and her birthday on dec 3rd.)

Are all three sides of the triangles the same? She says "make them symmetrical", but I'm not sure that describes an equilateral triangle.

Those are so pretty - not sure which is my favorite! Thanks for the link - I really enjoy Debbie Shore and her videos.

no, they can be however tall and skinny (or stubby) you want them. They just need to be symmetrical. My suggestion is not to make them too skinny because when you sew them in half, you need room to stuff each side.
