I am in the (roughly) 65 x80 camp -- I like to be able to tuck in my toes and up to my shoulders.

Depends on the size of the person it is intended for, or the size of couch it will be used on. A larger throw could be too much for a tiny little person, and a smaller one would do not that much for a great big guy.

I do most quilts for foster kids and the minimum size requirement is 50"x60". So the size of my lap quilts depends mostly on the size of the block. I like to keep as close to 50 as I can so I only need to get less than 2 yards for the backing and use the extra fabric to increase the width of the backing.

Mine have come out all kinds of sizes, but a lot like the one mentioned above.

I just finished one at 56" x 84". The 56" was because I had a piece of wool batting and that was the max width. Usually I try for at least 60" wide.

I like what I call "couch size" - basically a "skimpy twin"

minimum 60 x 80 - I like to be covered head to toe

I go with a 52x80! I love Samplers so I make 15 12" blocks, separate them with 2-1/2" sashing and 4" border. The blocks are three across and five down, and lays over the top of a double bed. (that's how big it is)!!! If I don't make it sampler style, I just add another nine blocks (12") and it comes out 56x80. Easy-Peasy! Edie

I agree with making them on the larger side. I do not like having a throw that I am not able to cover my feet and my shoulders at the same time. Great question!

I start out with a size in mind, but all my quilts just seem to grow. I frequently, while sewing the QUILT, place it on a double bed to see if the size seems appropriate

I want to make quilts to donate to nursing homes - and my thought process was for something that could be thrown over legs while siting in a chair or rolling down the halls in wheelchairs, since I have seen a lot of that. So I am thinking that if they are too big, they would get caught up in the mechanism of a wheelchair. And sitting in a chair, I would not want it to drag on the floor. Any thoughts???
