You can do this..............your daughter will love it. I find I can free motion quilt on a line, so I would suggest drawing your single design in the white squares using Ultra Clean Washable Markers from Crayola, and then just quilt slowly. Your fabric choices are wonderful, because they are meaningful to you and her heritage. What a wonderful gift. Like others, can't wait to see the finished quilt.

Love your quilt idea with the heritage connection. I think it would be great if you included the names of the fabric and what the name means -like you mentioned the house one, either in a label or randomly on the backing. And yes please post a picture when you finish. I know it will be beautiful and a treasure.
I read a life hack tip that white vinegar takes out wrinkles so if pressing doesn't get them out try spraying with that and try. Also after reading a tip on the board here I have tried using cheap vodka for 'starching' fabric and it works well for me.

I've completed a few blocks and laid them out to see a little of what the quilt will look like. THEY WILL NOT STAY LIKE THIS! I will be changing them around according to which prints go together best. Being a beginner, and not having a pattern to go by (just a picture) this has proved to be a challenge!
This morning I took a break from building the blocks and started cutting the scraps into strips that will be the border and binding. That will be a big job! Some of the prints that I decided not to put in the quilt will go into this project. Also, I am including the salvages with the Marimekko name and the name of the print in the border strips.
I need your help choosing a template to FMQ in the white squares. If you look closely at the inspiration quilt, you will see a butterfly. I love it, but I need something simple. I will practice whatever I choose, but I still don't want to pick something that I won't be able to do properly. Since this is a wedding present, I would like to do something romantic, but more important, I want a design that compliments the quilt.
Can I have some suggestions, please?
