Yes, you have 24 inches left, but you can use it for binding.
This calculator shows how to make that diagonal cut. A very long table (or two) would be helpful when doing this. Try your church, library, town hall etc. It is so easy to lay it all out flat and use your mat and rotary cutter to make that cut straight when it is all laid out on tables. You move the mat along the fold and cut just a smithereen off the fold.

Piecing quilt backs is a very enjoyable way to add interest to the back and to use leftover blocks/fabrics from the quilt top. Anything goes! One of my favorite quilts has nothing but 2.5-inch blocks on BOTH sides. I had no problem at all in quilting it on the SuperQuilter quilting frame I was using at the time.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm going to try diagonally piecing the back.

I did this once using a printed jungle animal print and was able to match the design , came out perfect..[QUOTE=kathy;7601896]if you cut a piece 96" long, cut on the diagonal (from top left to bottom right) then slide them down so it gets wider, when it's 55" wide, flip it over tight sides together and seam it
