[QUfOTE=mollymunchkin;7612081]No cats here, just this really awesome planet fabric. I am making a quilt for my nephew. He has worked for NASA and loves all things space. Feel free to use any color in the fabric. DH insisted on two coins for size reference.[/QUOTE]

great piece of fabric. My nephew would love this.

Greetings: as a certified( certifiable?) newbie to the group....just thought to warn you that although I try to be a nice lady( goal for personal development I started after I retired)...I have a wicked sense of humor. I started sewing when I was 10, and have made a lot of quilts over the last 60 years. I made them at first to produce a personal, less expensive, gift for folks( back when fabric was a lot cheaper. )I took time off when I went to medical school at the age of 40( should have had a smarter shrink tell me what that would entale). Then I was a solo internist in a catchement group of 50,000...with 3 guys to share call. I came out of med school with $200,000 worth of loans...but paid it off before I retired with a settlement after being hit by a truck! So,I ( and the DH) are retired, debt free. I'm a self taught quilter..every year I pick a skill and learn everything I can about it. My current project is learning to FMQ on my DSM with rulers.
We have 3 daughters...2 with hubbies) and 4 grands. I live in the sticks close to the Columbia River Gorge( how do you spell wind? )It's windsurfing country.
Thanks for letting me join. Cheers! francie

Welcome to both of you. I was the newbie on Boom 16. Man, I'm still trying to process all I learned.

My first memory of sewing is winning a sewing contest at the Singer Sewing Store back in 1966. I made a jacket & pair of Bermuda shorts. Pretty sure I won by default! I really don't remember but I have a newspaper clipping with my picture. I'm self taught, so I break a lot of rules and I forced myself to learn the discipline of hand sewing two years ago and don't regret a minute of it. But, I pretty much just sew/quilt now. I'm by far not a pro, but I love creating with fabric.

My Hubbie & I have 3 sons + spouses, 1 daughter + spouse & 12 grands and a great granddaughter who will turn one in 2 weeks. Our oldest grandson is a policeman & the second will leave for Coast Guard training in Oct. the rest range from 5 to 17. The joys of my life.

Francie, I hope you don't have lasting injuries from your collision. I started my career late too. I became a rural mail carrier at 37. (The year before my oldest was heading to college). I am now disability retired due to CRPS which limits how much I walk, but on the up side I get to sit around and sew a lot! (And my husband does all the grocery shopping!)

It has been a long time since I've had as much fun as I had completing Boom 16! Never would I have anticipated how much I would learn, the kindest people in the world I would meet and the goals I set for myself and shattered. But most of all the BEAUTIFUL blocks my mailman brought me in my squishy pkg. I'm still oohing & ahing over them. I'm looking forward to these booms, but a little anxious because I jumped back in to both booms! Got my needles all ready! Janice is a wonderful hostess on this quilting cruise, and I love the naked chicken. (That's not a recipe) My one goal this time is to send Libster a block with a few less pieces than last time!

Here's what is happening with my Boom 16 Blocks so far...

Making progress. Some sewn but most of it is just laid out. It will be long enough but I think I'll add a couple strips of the jewel patterns on the sides with zebra in the middle. Have to add another strip of zebra around the center block too. Final border will be zebra. Think it's wild yet?

A lot of folks were worried what they would do with the wild zebra print... hope they think it's coming together quite well with all their efforts.
