Onalee I love the quilt and am so glad you have it finished and are enjoying it. I think the pink was a great choice, and definitely looks like it belongs with the rest of the fabrics. You did the right thing by finishing this quilt. It makes no sense to take a beautiful piece of art that someone has spent many hours creating and stuff it in some drawer where no one can enjoy it. Kate would certainly prefer that you finish (however you need to) and use her gift than hide it away til you're gone and then have someone else buy it in a thrift store for a pittance. There's my $0.02. It's worth what you paid for it.

I am so sorry you were hurt by someone here. Sometimes our words are not meant to be rude but are not well thought out. Nonetheless, YOU were hurt and that makes me so sad for you and that whole situation.
I am glad you took what you needed from the responses, left the rest aside, and made your own decisions for what worked for you because the quilt is much better used and loved - which is certainly what your friend would have preferred! I hope it puts a smile on your face every time you enter the bedroom; I know it would for me.

A facing for edges will be much easier than binding and keep the edges nicely shaped. There are plenty of tutorials for ( facing quilt edges) any cotton batting your quilter likes and a muslin backing will be a perfect finish for this beautiful quilt.

Gosh-- I didn't even notice there were 7pages of responses when I posted about the facing ( too early in the morning I guess) the quilt turned out beautiful! I love the pink backing. Great finish and will be a wonderful family heirloom for generations! I hope you label it with all the information about it you have.

I have not been paying attention to the dates on the posts and thought this was a new thread. So when I saw the quilt pic on page 6 I thought it was the one she gave you for a wedding present.
Your LAQ did a great job!! So glad she took the time to respect the design of the quilt. I feel sad when I see a beautiful antique pattern and someone just meanders all over it, with no regard to the pieced pattern.

wesing Thanks for taking the time to let me know here and privately how much you appreciated seeing the completed quilt. I was neglectful in posting pictures and your gentle nudge had DH up the ladder taking pictures yesterday. I have sewn a quilt label with all information on the back.
Fortunately I have two adult kids who appreciate quilts and will take good care of this quilt after I'm gone and I'm relatively certain that it won't be in a donation bin.

You are so right, I realize every time I walk into the guest bedroom and see Kate's quilt on the bed I take a deep breath and smile, missing Kate for that breath, but marveling at her tenacious spirit in life that is exampled in her quilt, that she gave to us long ago... then the smile knowing she was such a strong woman, of little monetary wealth and that each piece of fabric was carefully chosen and sewn into this quilt for us. It is a treasure here on this side of heaven to me. (((Hugs to you Jan)))
