I would SITD around the center pictures and then do a square spiral out, quilting down the middle of the surrounding strips. If you quilt down the centers, you will avoid most of the seams. Cute top!

I like Tartan's idea. Alternately, you could just SITD all the seams in the pieced blocks. I would be tempted to quilt around the balls in the outer border. It would make them stand out, and with no marking required.

It is what are you comfortable doing?? I myself would stitch in the ditch using FMQ. I would look carefully and continuously outline some of the balls quilting them as continuous loops.

I just made a celebration of life type of quilt with pictures like you have there and I stitched around the outside of each picture, then carefully detailed the actual pictures so they wouldn't look so puffy and weird. Just did minimum detailing & it looked great! It came out really awesome. Good luck!! I love some of the other ideas you're getting too! Just pick what you're comfortable with! It'll be cherished because you made it special for them.

Beautiful quilt! You didn't mention what level of quilting you were looking for. I do not do a lot of hand quilting, but I do love that you can run the thread through the batting rather than having to do a continuous line design. I started off making connections in my sketch, but realized you don't need to do that & it will look nicer without them.

Since it seems to be baseball themed, I went with bats & balls around the photos & caps in the outer border. Those could be any color at all. Then, I went with a bright pink (could be red or blue or any color that really shows up) and outlined just a few details in each photo both to provide support for the quilt & to add a focal point to the lovely black & white photos. Can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

I would free motion round the figures and any objects in the squares. Then zigzag through all the log cabin stripes. Just circles in the balls area.
