This was a fun thread. I took the time to read every reply to this one. I dabbled in quilting early because I aspired to be a Home Economics teacher and started sewing when I was about seven-on a Wheeler and Wilson treadle machine. The first book I ever purchased was Eleanor Burns Log Cabin book-the original self published book. The quilt I made was used until it was tatters. I knew Jinny Beyer because I belonged to Quilters Unlimited in Virginia lots of years ago. I have loved watching her journey in quilting. There are so many I have admired because of their efforts to reach out to others with their expertise. Aren't we fortunate to have so many wonderful people to help guide us. I really like Jenny Doan's story, her family support and her ability to speed up the process of making a quilt. I have a quilt I made under the direction of Georgia Bonesteel through her books. Another of my favorites is Eleanor Sienkienicz and her work with Baltimore Album applique quilts.

I like watching Jenny Doan because she appears cheerful, casual, and "forgiving", as in quiltmaking should be fun not stressful. I used to see quilt shows on cable often; now that I'm actually involved in quilting, there are none on my cable lineup, which greatly annoys me.

I have so many on my list but my two absolute favorites are Eleanor Burns and Jenny Doan. I have met both of these women and they are genuine caring people. I have met some others but their egos got off my list. No names.

I was thrilled this past year when I was able to take classes from Edyta Sitar and Mary Fons. Both of those ladies are fabulous. So down to earth and friendly. Love both of them. And, of course, Jenny Doan is a favorite because she has made quilting making so easy. I am in awe of her ability to take a pattern and figure out an easy way to make it. I've made several of her quilts....working my way through her tutorials. My bucket list is so long of quilts I want to make that these ladies have inspired that I think I need a bigger bucket. Retiring next year and cannot wait so I can devote more time to all my projects.
