We had great success with a magazine challenge. You bring in any magazine, craft or quilting mags are not allowed, draw a number out of a bag. Turn to that page number in the magazine and that is your inspiration for your project. Do whatever you like, be inspired a lot or a little by your page. You must bring your magazine with you when you show your quilt. We gave 2 months to finish up

Our Guild has had a challenge for the last two years. One was to make completed quilts, 12" x 12" with the theme "Water". The next year was similar, 12" x 18" with the theme "Trees". It's fun to see where people's minds will go when given these subjects! I saw another challenge at a quilt show this month. Participants were asked to bring in an assortment of pre-fused fabrics. They were given an hour to create flowers in a vase from their supplies. The project was then sliced in quarters, and participants were asked to trade with three different people, keeping one section of their own. Their homework was to bring the pieces together using thread play, embellishments, and more fusing. You would not believe how amazing these looked!! Challenges can be very fun.

Our group did a "paint chip challenge" whereby each member draws out a paint chip that has a selection of three colours and then you could add in black and white to make a total of 5 colours only. All who took part really enjoyed the challenge and came up with some interesting ideas.

Another challenge was that we were each given a fat quarter of the same fabric and had to feature the fabric in something.

We were also given a set of clues over a 5 week period and could interpret each clue as we thought appropriate - we could make any item so long as each clue was evident. That one produced some interesting items.

Have fun picking a suggestion and let us know what you decide upon. Enjoy the challenge. They are fun.
