Maybe a shadow box quilt. It would showcase all the wonderful dresses she wore & you could make them any size you want. Would also make them stand out.

I just finished a King strip quilt using my Mom's and Dad's old dresses and shirts. I even used some my Dad's leisure suit pants. In making this quilt and seeing the different fabric brought back many happy memories.

What about the churn dash, you can make that in 6inch or up to 12 inch blocks .

I didn't want to make just a block quilt, I wanted to do something a little different, even if I have to use some other fabric in the quilts for the back ground. She gave me 9 dresses and a few nightgowns which I will have to use some fusible interfacing on them as they are finer fabric then the dresses. This is do able so not worried about that but just need a pattern to show case the dress fabric.

anyone have any suggestions for a pattern for these lap quilts.

Also what is a good size for a lap quilt.. Thanks ladies
Do you plan on making all 4 the same? I am working on a nurse lap quilt for my daughter who is a nurse and using the BQ1 pattern in the 9 inch block size. I made 20 blocks and set them 4 by 5 rows. Adding a 2.5 inch inner border and a 5 inch outer border it came out 49 X 58 inches. I usually make mine somewhere close to 50 X 60 inches. Also working on a single Irish chain lap quilt, approximately the same size. But of course, you can make them any size you desire.

I like a nine patch alternating with a snowball. To me, it has a vintage look.

It's so sweet of you to do this for your friend & her family. I love Dresdens & the Dresses are soooo cute. All I do is PP & this pattern has a lot of pieces. There are sooo many patterns out there!
I'd suggest Quilt Blocks Galore.com, Quilters Cache.com, favequilts.com..
Good luck & when finished, show us some pics....

What about a Log Cabin quilt? My grandmother made each of us grandkids a LC using fabric scraps and outgrown clothing...I still treasure mine and can (pretty much) remember what item of clothing each fabric came from.

I am currently working on my dad's shirts quilts. I had previously made 6 quilts - 5 for siblings and one for my mom - and then brought all the leftovers home with me after the funeral. I decided to work on them NOW. I added bandanna fabric as he was a cowboy from Montana, plus white or cream and brown, as it was his favorite color.

Here are what I've come up with. I'm aiming for the 50-60" width by about 60-70" length.
