Default Ready to buy new machine

It's been over a year since I asked for recommendations for a new sewing machine. I think I've narrowed it down to the Brother PC420PRW and the Janome JW7630 which were recommended at the time. Are there any other $500 price range machines I should consider? Thanks!

I did look at this thread but just wondered if for an extra $100-200 there was anything else I should consider. Thanks!

i have the Brother PC420PRW. have been using it for close to two years and love it!
it's my "small" machine for travel, classes, and hauling to sew at friends' houses.
the least expensive janome model that includes all of the same features costs a few hundred dollars more.

it does not come with an extension table, but that can be purchased separately for an almost-reasonable price (between $60-$70.).
if you like using a 1/4" piecing foot, you'll need to get that separately, too. they are very inexpensive - often less than $10 online.

Hmmm, over a year....the new models of those and other machines may add to your decision making, not to mention that new machine...I think name is sew ever or something like that....plus maybe your local dealer will be getting some trade-ups that would fit your bill......

So in narrowing down machines it's come down to do I want more harp space or automatic tension?

I just bought the Janome 3169 QDC for $599.00 ($1000.00 MSRP). Times Square Sewing in Springfield, IL. LOVE IT! They have a location in Jacksonville, IL. EXTENSION TABLE INCLUDED. THREAD CUTTER, etc. Quiet! Portable

she just posted on Facebook 25% off of everything..machines included!

I'd go with more harp space ... you can always adjust tension yourself. Decent Harp space is really a plus if you plan to quilt larger projects.

I wish there was a website I could go to and put in my specs and have it spit out a machine for me! Searching through the specs for what I want is for the birds!
