your quilt is very nice and you should be proud. Here is a picture of the quilting that I was talking about 2-1/2" apart cross hatch on 45 degree angle
I just used the angle marking on my ruler to get the first line at that 45 degree angle.. and its far from perfect. But then the quilting is in diamond shapes instead of squares My backing is minky so it helps hide some imperfect quilting lines

Your quilt is beautiful! You did a great job of the piecing, and getting all the sashings lined up.
If I was you, I would quilt beside the ditch rather than in it. Since you have a walking foot, quilt lining the side of the walking foot up with the seam. Your quilting line will then be parallel to, but about 1/2" away from, the sashings.
Since your blocks are quite large, you should probably have some stitching through the middle of them. Even if it's not required for your batting, it will make the quilt last longer. I would do diagonal lines like someone else suggested. I've made a little diagram of what the quilting would look like:

As an aside, like Watson said, spray basting won't leave a sticky mess... I spray baste because it makes it so much neater to redo things. The spray is only very slightly tacky, but adheres well to fabric. I wish someone had told me about spray basting when I was just starting to quilt, as it makes basting SO much easier, and means you don't have to avoid pins when quilting.

Thank you all for your suggestions on the quilting. I appreciate you taking the time to show me pics and diagrams on how to do it. I will keep all in mind and will be sure to post a picture once it's done. Thanks again everyone

Very pretty! Love your colors. You did an awesome for 1st! I was afraid to show my 1st quilt on this board but got such excellent and positive feedback that was extremely helpful and gave me a huge boost in Confidence! I would do hatchcross as suggested or squares insides the squares about 1" apart! I use the spray all of the time and like it because you can reposition it. It will last fora few days. I've left a quilt and came back and the spray was still holding it in place. All of this from a rookie/newbie to quilting. Good luck! Please show us the finished quilt! Have fun!

Sewannie, you did a great job on your 1st quilt! We all have things in our quilts that we are hiding from everybody else (such as tucks, gathers, etc), and we still love our quilts. Your colors are wonderful and I'm sure you and your hubby will enjoy this quilt for years to come.
