I bought a 12.5" Bloc Loc ruler when my sister, niece and daughter (none of whom are quilters) decided they wanted me to help them make a quilt for Mom/Grandma. It was very expensive, over $40, but worth every penny. The 10" HST's went into chevron quilt which turned out great, and sits on the back of the recipient's couch.

I do have the 12.5" block ruler but I sew around the entire square with 1/4" seam and cut across in a X pattern. Fast and easy for me.

I've seen similar older threads but everyone seems to be making much smaller HSTs and this little one wants "big, so I can see the stuff on the fabric." Has anyone done large HSTs, tips to share? I don't have any fancy rulers, just a 6"x24", are they worth the money?
I will tell you I use Deb Tucker's tools and her Tucker Trimmers are wonderful..............your HSQ will come out PERFECTLY every time.............and yes, her tools ARE worth the money.............Check them out on her Studio 180 website.

My favorite HST method is two squares, sew 1/4 around the edges then cut in an X for 4 HST's. But it all depends upon how big is "big" for the child.
