Hey y'all... just posted my finished March group quilt in that thread. It's a big quilt... 30 blocks, straight setting. It's a secret surprise birthday gift for my son in law... which he will LOVE!

Now I'm ready for the next Boom. Thinking about what to send...

Kass, watch out lest you have a 2 lb wino on your hands!

Make sure you all head over to March to see sewbiz's quilt. It's terrific!

Unfortunately, the blue and yellow weren't Boom blocks but were a block of the month from an LQS. Am off to the LQS for sashing for the boom lap quilt. Oh, and a better matching thread this time. Next week I'll start quilting the blocks.

I get a touch over 3 (3.05) w/ a wof of 40 inches. If you can get a wof w/o selvedge at 44 inches (which I don't count on) you could do it w/ 2.5 yards

Kass then do you cut down middle length wise first or width wise. Then do you make your first cut 18"? It freaks me out every time I do it

If you prewash and then remove selvedges, fabric that was supposed to be 44" wide becomes about 40 or 41" wide. I usually cut half yards, then quarter them into the eights we use. But if prepared as above, they won't measure the full 18" x 11"... more like 18" x 10.25". To cut them any other way would involve a lot of waste.

Hope that's ok!

For our f8's I press the half mark length wise (cut) then the half of that length wise (cut) then sub cut the strips usually at 20 inches (if I have the fabric) to help offset the 1/2 to 3/4 inch short I am on the 11 inch side after cutting off the selvage. ( I cut selvage off before doing all that )

When I commented on yardage I wasn't even thinking f8's I was thinking exact cuts like for a block.

For our f8's 3 yards will give you 20 pieces 20 x 10.5 (to 11) w/ a little extra.

Oh, that's a great idea... add a little bit to compensate for the width.
