Default How to applique yoyo centers to dresden plates?

I've made my dresden plates and my yoyo centers. Now how do I attach the centers? Do I whip stitch around the edges of yoyo? applique stitch around edges of yoyo? what? Is yoyo supposed to look 3D or flat? I searched youtube but all I found was how to make; nothing on how to attach. Thanks for your help.

I kind of spot glued the centers flat and sewed a skinny zig zag stitch with invisible thread. I did use a circle template to iron the centers flat.

I usually use an invisible appliqué stitch around my yo yos when appliqueing them onto a block. You could whip stitch them if you want. Mine are always somewhat 3-D, because they are puffy. I stitch them rom the back just catching the edges with small stitches. Try them however you want & see how you like them, there are no rules. remember to show us pictures.

I would probably just tack them down in at least four places around the sides.

I use a circle of fabric large enough to cover dresden hole. Then I top stitched around the circle. I quilted it also.

I tack mine down through the center (just the one layer of fabric on the yo-yo) and then, if it's going to be washed, I also applique down the edges a bit to help it keep its shape when laundered.

Which is the front of the yoyo that always confuses me. Is it the part that is pulled closed? Or is it the other side?

When I used them for an appliqué I did last year, I had the same question. What I came up with was to make a template out of heat resistant plastic half the size of the circle minus 1/4"(you will have to make a sample circle to use with yours depending on how wide your turn under is), stitch around the edge of the circle as directed, insert the disc into the yo yo before I drew it up, and starched and pressed it, let the thread lose, remove the disc, then tightened the thread and tied it. That gave me a nice smooth edge to blind stitch down by hand, with the gathered side out. I did use elmers glue to hold them in place until they were stitched. I hope this gives you some inspiration for your project.

The front of the yo-yo is the side with the gathers.

*also, I have seen a yo-yo used with the flat side out for cherries, berries, and grapes to get a rounded look.
