Default Have you seen fabric with a message on the selvedge?

In going through my neutrals or Bonnie Hunter's latest mystery, I wanted to use only those that are white or close to it. Usually, I like cream through light tan, but the main colors I am using do not lend themselves to that.

A piece of fabric that I've had for two or three years was interesting to me as, rather than any manufacturing information, it has a quote or message on the selvedge. The fabric itself is perfect for this quilt, white background with a small, interesting print on it that will read as neutral.

In case you can't read it, it says, "Once a winter, I have my girlfriends over for an afternoon tea - but first we trek out to the woods for a walk...SB"

I wonder who SB is? Of course, now that I'm looking at this and wondering, I wish I could find more! That's the problem with a stash - fabric that is older isn't likely around any more.

That fabric reminds me of the “Daisy Kingdom” fabrics sold in Portland, OR. They specialized is dainty prints and border prints for little girls clothes. They also included little notes like that on the selvedges.

I kind of remember seeing some writing on selvedge. Might have been my Daughter's fabric as I have been working with her scraps, all size pieces.

The first person I thought of was also Susan Branch.
Love the fabric, it will be perfect for the Bonnie Hunter quilt!

I learn the most interesting things from you ladies and men. I think the selvedge you found is worthy of thought and saving. I am rather distressed by the usual warnings that say you can buy a piece of fabric and use it only for your own personal consumption. How industry killing is that!
