Gee I am so confused, my hubby dear man went and brought me some cotton batting without scrim. What the heck is that. What is the difference with or without.

There is a little information that says it is 1/16 should I use it double thickness or not. What is the best batting.

You will probably get better info from us if you give the brand name of the batting, so people will know if they've used it before. I would make a practice sandwich because I doubled batting once thinking it seemed too thin and then it was too far, lol. Go figure.

As far as scrim or no scrim, no scrim just makes you have to quilt closer together. So, follow the instructions on the package. Do

Scrim describes a light layer or grid of woven fibers added to some cotton battings. It acts as a stabilizer and helps to hold the batting together while quilting.

The older Warm and Natural I have - the "scrim" looks a lot like light weight non-woven Pellon that the cotton fibers were punches into.

Agree that it would be helpful to know the brand. Quilters Dream cotton is excellent batting and it doesn't have a scrim and you can quilt up to 8" apart and comes in several different lofts. The Request loft if the thinnest but their website doesn't say how thick it actually is.

I have used W&N but, I prefer hi-loft polyester batting. No matter what the package says I never quilt further apart than 3-4".

Sorry i forgot to say what sort it is Legacy Brand Style L-NB-96 it says Natural cotton 100% cotton matural it says 1/16

I've used both and to be honest, there's not a ton of difference once the quilt is done. While quilting you do have to take care that you aren't dragging it up and over anything, if it needs adjusting do so gently and with love and the scrimless batting will love you gently back.
