I have thought of this, too. I am blessed to have four children who have blessed me with 11 grands. They each have a quilt, but I would like to make and leave baby quilts for the great-grands. My grandmother did this for her greats and we were all very happy to share in her legacy.

I say make them. I started making baby quilts when Covid started. I finished 2 baby quilts by April and had no babies in mind to give them to. My son got married last year so I thought they will be having babies in the future. But to my surprise my 38 year old daughter who is not married but living with her partner surprised us on Mother's Day to tell us she is pregnant with TWINS! We are so excited and I thought maybe by making the quilts I was putting it out there in the universe and it happened! These will be our first grandchildren so I am all ready now with quilts. As it turned out, my daughter liked another pattern so I am making her what she wants and I will keep these at home for when they visit. Try making them and you might be pleasantly surprised what babies might pop up in your life! Good luck.

I would do it! I'm 71 and decided this is my time.. I make anything that appeals to me right now. I don't care if it is for someone or not. They can go through them when I am gone...keep, toss or use for rags...it won't hurt my feelings. i often donate quilts so maybe there won't be any setting in my closet by then...

I love to make baby quilts and have several on hand for gifts. Make them and enjoy the making of them.

I say make those baby quilts, if the family doesn’t need them, someone will. My third child was born after my mother in law passed away. She was an avid knitter, and a friend offered us a baby blanket my mother in law had made for “someone” (she was nurse, and made many baby things for her younger coworkers). We were thrilled, as she had made baby things for my older two children, and he had a connection with a nana he never had the privilege to know.

Just finished piecing 6 baby quilts. All scrappy and gender neutral. Now comes what I hate. ! But necessary evil. I'm having a blast and thrilled with the support you guys gave me. When these are all done I can focus on making baby quilt who will be GGM for the first time an lshe just found out it's a girl.

I am also in my early seventies. I recently made four really cute baby quilts which I put in a plastic tub and told my two daughter-in-laws they are for my four grandchildren when they have babies someday! I obviously don't think it's morbid at all! I think someday they will come in very handy and hope they will have a special meaning for my grandchildren!
