This is a double Irish chain. The block with your flower is framed with colored squares in the corners

That is beautiful. Are the dahlia blocks hand sewn? It looks more purple in the full quilt.

Goldenleaf, your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! Kudos for hand piecing and hand quilting it. Did you use the templates from the original pattern? How long did it take you to hand piece the top? It is so beautiful and definitely heirloom worthy!

I used the templates from that book. They are very similar to the ones in the Cheryl Benner book but the instructions are clearer and one set of templates is sized for a 16 inch block so with a bit of playing around on the printer I could get them resized for a 10 inch block.

Goldenleaf, thank you for posting your pictures. This is exactly what I had in mind, and your quilt is just gorgeous. I was pleased to see that it is hand-pieced. I do mostly hand piecing as well, while I watch tv or ride in the car; it's easier to take smaller pieces where I go, than to take my sewing machine, lol. I do sew long border pieces or binding by machine, though.
I drew it up on graph paper using 3- inch squares, so they will finish at 12 1/2 blocks.
