Default Treadle Help

The picture below shows the skinny rod with the screw partly unscrewed. If I tighten the screw all the way up, I can’t treadle, it is stiff and doesn’t move forward. But if I leave the screw like that on the skinny rod, it eventually becomes unscrewed and the rod detaches, making the foot treadle fall and I have to stop sewing to fix it.

I am wondering if there is a way to remedy this? I took a picture of the screw for the big wheel in case that would effect things. Am I missing a part? How can I fix the skinny rod without it becoming stiff?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not clear what I'm looking at in the second picture, but the first one appears to have a nut that's backed way off. Rather than screwing the rod in further, wouldn't the nut just need to be tightened up? To keep the rod from unscrewing?

If you put a second nut behind the first nut, that should hold it in place. There are places on other different sewing machines where they have used the double nut to make adjustments hold.

The rod should be screwed in part way and then the nut tightened to lock it in.
