Essential Triangle Tool ruler worth it?
While Bonnie Hunter has had some great designs, I've never done one before as they seem too complicated. But then came along her "Basket Toss" pattern and I really like it. However she promotes her Essential Triangle Tool Ruler to cut the majority of pieces out...this is one ruler template I don't own and find it quite pricey. Does any of the board members own this tool/ruler and was it worth the price? Would you recomment it?
I have a million smalll pieces (less than quarter yards) of fabric and figure that between this Basket Toss pattern and the paper pieced one I talked about learning yesterday I should be rid of a vast majority of my scraps this winter.
Wondering if I'll be banging my head against the wall this winter or will the men in the white coats come to take me away to the funny farm....LOL

She made dozens of her quilts before she started selling her ruler. Her patterns come with instructions how to cut using any ruler., She is good about providing that information. She does all her scrap cutting using an Studio cutter to cut many at a time.

joanns usually has them too, use a coupon. I like using them for 1/2 square triangle blocks. If you like making them big and cutting them down, or making them 4 at a time style, whatever method you like, you can still use that method. With that ruler (there are other brands too) you cut strips, place them right sides together and use the ruler, no waste. Be sure the line is On the fabric, not off.

I love the Essential Triangle Tool. I can cut 2.5" half square triangles sets from 2.5" strips. No waste (except for dog ears). NO SLIVER TRIMMING. A great time saver. Very accurate. You can use the same ruler to make many different sizes!

I have one (it was required for a class I took with Bonnie), use it and like it, but there you may have other tools that will do the same. The Essential Triangle Tool combines the Easy Angle and Companion Angle - which were what Bonnie used before designing her tool. I think there are similar by Eleanor Burns, but don't know what they are called.
Do you have the pattern? Bonnie's patterns usually give alternate methods for cutting.

i would recommend the EZ Quilting Angle Ruler Half Square Triangle ruler.
it comes in 2 sizes and does the same thing.
i have been using them for years and have never found anything better.
prices vary wildly so shop around. the 6-1/2" size can be found for under $10.

Thanks for this post and the responses! I'm thinking about joining Bonnie Hunter's upcoming Indigo Way mystery sew along and the Essential Triangle Tool is in the list of supplies. I have so many triangle rulers already--glad to know that one I already have will work just fine. :-)

I had to laugh outloud at myself...I read the post and thought now here's someone with my sense of humor! Then I saw that it was ME who had written the post. It's been a very long last 8 days my fellow quilting friends!

Lindaschipper, if it makes you feel better there is a post titled Brown Bag Turkey and I've clicked on it twice thinking it was instructions on how to make a turkey from a brown bag (craft) only to find it was a thread about cooking a turkey in a brown bag. Well duh, it was listed under recipes, not main. Where was my brain both times? Maybe both our minds are out playing somewhere together? LOL
As for the ruler, I have the Essential Triangle Tool by BH. Use it and love it!
