I squeeze out as much liquid as I can then put it in the spin cycle of my washing machine, making sure I set it past the point where the machine adds more water. Then I put it in the dryer and pull it out while still damp.

Wow, all of that sounds like a lot of work. I'm glad I seldom use starch anymore.

I have several cans of starch, the niagara non aerosol, and a lot of best press people have given me. I don't find my results any better or worse using or not using starch. I do know to be careful with bias edges.

The only time I use starch is for turned edge applique--the freezer paper and painted on starch version. I never starch my fabric. I actually rinse my fabric in hot water to get rid of the stabilizer and dry in a hot dryer to shrink and set colours before using in a quilt.

Could you put it in the washer on a spin cycle?

Bear, I used to hate my front loader but it's great for washing my King quilts.

What is satina?

I never starched my fabric but the first time I did saturate, dry, and iron the fabric I liked sewing the starch fabric much better.

It was a little waxy blue rectangle - Mom broke off a piece abut 1 x 2 x 1/8 and dropped it into the hot starch /water mix.

I think it was supposed to make ironing the items easier.
