    Could you cut the background edge pieces larger for the top and bottom. One triangle will overlap the next, but you should be able to trim to a straight edge.

    I made a similar quilt that had top and bottom edges like your quilt. I simply bound them in that zig zag way and I love the look of it. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I am off to work this morning but will attempt posting a pic tonight.

    I like that quilt dunster I might get that . I fixed my 3-d quilt by adding two additional 3 inch triangles to each column on the top and bottom that will give me the look I need for attaching the boarder.
