Some time ago, as in years ago ... here on the Quilting Board there were quilty things being made from men's suits.

Around that time friends were emptying the husband's closet and I "adopted" some suits that were otherwise destined for the thrift shops.

So now I am emptying my closets and came across these suits ... and said whaaat? whyyyy? Honestly, have no clue what those great ideas were!

Anyone have any clue what it was?
Or any new ideas?

Or should I just finally donate them to charity, whether a thrift store or a fibre recycling depot?

I just don't like the look of suits for quilts. Also, it seems a shame to cut them up when someone might need to wear them. I would donate them to a thrift store. Sometimes men getting sober and/or straight need to go on job interviews and don't have the clothing for it. It would be great if the thrift stores had a good variety for them.

Not exactly about men's suits or quilting but I've been collecting drapery and upholstery fabrics from the thrift shops to make jackets, skirts and dresses for myself. I had an aunt who was a CEO down in Houston years ago and she had all her suits made from brocade type drapery fabrics as it wore bette and looked smart. She was a smart lady also. Some of the more fluid type curtain fabrics can be used to make blouses also.

Now to just find the time to make them all.

They make really nice purses. There used to be a designer in England who made awesome pieced and quilted purses from men's suits.

I have a friend that made an awesome quilt for a retirement gift. It had squares from men's suits, the sashings were from shirts and the necties were also incorporated into the quilt. It was pretty neat.

my grandparents had dozens of foster children in the 50's (always someone there to play with!) and she made many of quilts from mens suiting, just one patch quilts, backed with flannel and nicely tied with yarn. I still have one. Sewed on her Singer treadle.
It may have been the dark fabric that drew her because she had a wringer washer and a clothes line, so doubt they were washed.

That would disqualify wool from patchwork for me.
