These are a few head scratchers that my Mother used to say to me:
Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
If you fall down and break both legs, don't come running to me.
This is gonna hurt me alot more than you.
When you're done filling your eyes fill your pockets.(in other words stop staring)

Pride goeth before a fall, and a haughty spirit before destruction (Book of Proverbs, Bible)
In for a penny, in for a pound (I think this is the English pound sterling!)
Pretty is as pretty does
It is better to give than to receive
Charity begins and home
Don't count your chickens before they are hatched
I've been reading the other posts and boy did I hear 'you'd cut off your nose to spite your face' from my mother. Whoa, brought me back. Funny to think that these were the sayings they used to guide our lives when we were kids. I wonder what my daughter would say if I asked her?

‘Blessed be the children of the piece makers for they shall inherit the quilts’
This was my Grandmother favorite. She was the quilt maker. When she said it she would laugh. I can still see her smile.
I miss her.
