I'm w/CarrieC I use KwikSew patterns for most of the things I sew for my granddaughter. But I don't trace my pattern onto tissue paper (I don't like or have time for ALL of the tracing). I take my pattern and copy it onto thin Velim (sp). This way I can change anything I want and use the pattern as much as I like. I also can make notes on my pattern. I have done this for years. These patterns are made to be copyed and re-used. Have fun

I saw a dress (yes, there was a pattern for it, but I didn't buy it) that was made using a child's t-shirt and adding a gathered skirt at the bottom. Very cute! And, very simple to do. Plan to make one for my DGD for her birthday.

I sew a lot for my grandkids. I have found pattern sizing to be all over the place, so I try to sew a cheap sample first. To fit my grandkids, I typically use a size smaller for width. (If I'm wanting a size 5, I use the size 4 for width, and the size 5 for length). And I always make the pants narrower, shorten the crotch length, and lengthen the leg to compensate. I don't know what child the pattern companies used for a model, but it was not one of my grandkids! All that complaining aside, it's a lot of fun!

You can use almost any simple pattern to enlarge slightly and cut from a quilted crumb block "fabric". It would be fine for cold or cool weather. without batting, it would be fine for slightly warmer weather. Overalls work well this way and give padding for young knees.
