I sew a lot for my grandkids. I have found pattern sizing to be all over the place, so I try to sew a cheap sample first. To fit my grandkids, I typically use a size smaller for width. (If I'm wanting a size 5, I use the size 4 for width, and the size 5 for length). And I always make the pants narrower, shorten the crotch length, and lengthen the leg to compensate. I don't know what child the pattern companies used for a model, but it was not one of my grandkids! All that complaining aside, it's a lot of fun!
