Good ideas here -- storage can be such an issue!! I found a layer cake I won and couldn't figure out where to store it -- then decided to just cut it up and make a quilt out of it! I did get all the blocks pieced, now need to piece them into a top. That was much easier than finding a place to put the layer cake.

Shoe boxes, I use cardboard boxes garbage bags come in to store CD's. You can spray paint those or cover with material if you want, and the closest Wal Mart has great clear storage containers I keep all material in to keep dust and dog hair off it (sugar sand can be a mess). And as someone said we have a dollar tree here where everything is a dollar, they have storage containers. I have one 6.2 qt that I store charms in 4 stacks and they have deeper ones in that size I store material in.

I keep mine in plastic shoe boxes. In fact I organize all my different sized squares that I have cut in plastic shoe boxes. They stack real nice and I make a label and stick right on to the end. There is nothing like feeling like making a scrappy quilt, grabbing a shoe box and just doing it. I tape ideas for quilts using that size inside the top of the box and where I can find the pattern!!!
    Have fun!

The plastic containers that friuts and veggies come in at the supermarket make nice storage containers. Some even stack nicely, they're clear and free!

I found a shoe keeper, with the cubby holes at a garage sale. It was brand new, still in the box. works great for my fat quarters and smaller pieces. Also, will hold charm packs & any other small sewing notions. Works great for me.

For charms, I use plastic containers. For layer cakes and larger blocks, I use the containers for the scrapbooking paper (Costco had them right after Christmas for a good price) -- I also use them for strips.

I like to store my squares in metal containers, the kind Christmas cookies come in, they do not give the fabrics any odors.
