I have three wool pressing mats. One is a 13" quilters mat that fits on a folding table and I can use it with my small iron. The other two are actually wool pads used for horses. They are virtually the same as a quilters mat, but much larger and less expensive. These large ones fit on my ironing board stand my husband made for me out of heavy plywood. They don't smell and work great for pressing my finished tops and backings.

I have and love my small one. It makes seams lay flat.

I like mine a lot but so does one of my cats. She must have been kneading it the other day because it had a couple of clumps on top. I got mine on sale from the Featherweight Shop. I think it's about 12 x 16 or close. I don't notice any weird odors.

I tried one a couple of times (a smallone, maybe 12x12" or 18x18"), and the smell did not dissipate. It was really, really rank.

I have several of the mats, even one to cover my ironing board. Some of them smelled when using some didn't. The smell has gone away in them now.

forgot to say, I toss the ones I use a lot in the washer and dryer. Especially the ironing board cover.
