I think those of us in the northern climes would prefer more sun on the pool, rather than less. My friend has a pool in the back yard, full sun, but once it gets to be about 6ish in the evening and the sun is past a certain angle, it gets too chilly to hang out in the pool. However, I can see where if you're in the south, you'd prefer less sun.

our first house had an abovegrund pool. I never used it because I can't swim and am afraid of water, don't even like the shower on my face.
Rob was gone all the time but friends loved it, they'd come in the front door and straight out the back. we finally sold it.
As noted above Check Your Homeowners Insurance. They are considered an 'attractive nusiance', as in people can and will sneak in and you are responsibe even with fences and signs.
but if you love having a pool go for it, your home your money your priorities!

We live in East Tennessee. My parents had an above ground pool in a partially shaded backyard. The water stayed cool (not crazy cold) all season unless it was sweltering hot for several days in a row. Even then the water didn’t get uncomfortably warm. It was not really a problem because once you get in the water and splash around a bit you get used to the temperature.
It was daily work for Dad to keep the leaves out. On the plus side, it was normally just he and Mom in the pool so he used minimal chemicals and the water stayed clean without a lot of wear and tear on their skin, hair, and clothes. They could even get in the water and get back out and not have to shower to get the smell off them.
I’d say if you have your heart set on a pool and don’t mind the cooler water, you should move ahead.

Since no one has mentioned chlorine, I will! We went with the salt system instead. Amazing difference. Clear and clean with no chlorine smell! Choose salt for the filtration system if available. Look up videos for the differences. I would never go back to chlorine. Chlorine wreaked havoc on the elastic in my swimsuits.
