Elmers glue should wash out. I did a small test a few years ago with steam a seam lite. I was making a Christmas wall hanging and didn't want to have to stitch around things. I knew it would probably never be washed, or only washed once or twice. Lots of tiny pieces. I made up a small sample of one of the lambs and washed it in the regular laundry. I just pinned it to my husbands jeans. After 6 washes and thrown in the dryer. I would of course never wash the wall hanging this way. In my opinion anything that will be washed much needs some sewing down. I would personally blanket stitch around the edges. The steam a seam is supposed to be permanent, I am afraid to trust it in something washed really often. It does keep things from fraying.
