Did you use cotton thread to quilt it? That may have shrunk just enough to make it crinkly. Also, I only put the quilts in the dryer on low for 15 minutes and then take them out and hang them on the clothes line or lay it out over a table to dry.

I like the crinkly look of a quilt. The only prewashing I do is before I begin to sew and cut and only with fabric that could bleed. They look nice I will admit before they are washed, but the crinkled look says real quilt to me.

I do use cotton Aurifil. Is there an alternative? I was considering polyester thread for quilting top. What do you think?

That is my thinking too. It is constructed of cotton fabric therefore wrinkles.......some can be eliminated by doing some of the suggestions.....but I cannot imagine one ironing their handmade quilts! Way to OC!!!!

I know it doesn't answer your question but to me the crinkle is what "makes" the quilt, I love it.

I think that the amount of quilting also affects the wrinkling. If it's only lightly quilted there will be more wrinkling, in my experience. I iron it to get the wrinkles out on quilts where I don't want wrinkles (a lighter iron setting for polyester batting, as someone already said). I think that cotton thread is preshrunk and doesn't shrink more. Polyester thread quilts beautifully, also.
