I just love the old advertisements! They had such great art, while all the while spewing lies! Such a kinder, gentler time!

Not sure I understand this. Did the older ones lie to you in a kinder, gentler way?
When I look at modern TV ads (which is not often) I see the same sort of lies just presented in a more modern way.

I think creative and "Over The Top" salesmanship sums it up. I tend to doubt Davis made "the greatest sewing machine on earth" but I don't consider my sewing skills good enough to judge. Davis was definitely one of a kind.

I think it's just that now we're all aware that advertising is slanted and full of BS...but back then, I think it was a kinder, gentler time, and I think more people would believe that a sewing machine could transform their entire life!

Had another thought on this card. Instead of before and after pictures I was struck that the scenes were of night and day with 2 different dogs and two different rooms. While sleeping she dreams of work and while working she thinks of rest.

Ummmm......no. Even back in the male-chauvinist-pig days, I’d doubt that Davis would infer that a woman needed to sew day and night, but I could be wrong.

Besides....keeping the two dogs separated and in the proper rooms might have added to the reason that she was so tired......(danged dogs)

Hi CD,

I don't think Davis would infer this either. On the surface the message seems pretty simple but IMHO there seems to be more to it (or maybe not). I enjoy looking for the "hidden" message but I also played my Led Zeppelin albums backwards and never heard anything.

Jon

PS--Too much imagination can be a BAD thing when looking for hidden messages

Yeah. I once listened to a Kris Kristofferson song backwards, and he was still off-key.....

Don't think I've heard one of his tunes in a while but he sure could write a good song. Movies are tolerable but I could do without "Heaven's Gate".

He was a heck of a writer, but then he decided that he was also a singer,..... but no.

Just my opinion of course. Others may really like his singing talent.
