I suspect the key is in "range of work" if legit. Very likely Davis knew all the weaknesses of Singer, W&W, New Home, Domestic and Underfeed machines in general and these were exploited. I also imagine the Davis' machine operators were highly skilled professionals. Great way to get people to the show rooms.

Pretty neat old trade cards. Having the drawn characters dressed so elegantly while sewing was probably recognized by folks back then as a blatant attempt to persuade shoppers into thinking they could look that smart if they only had the sewing machine being advertised. I doubt that the average woman back then would do her sewing in her finery in the privacy of her own home. More than likely, she would wear some old something that didn’t hurt to get stray threads on it. And something suitable for leaving the sewing machine to take care of other household chores both indoors and out during her busy day. However, smartly dressed models sell the most merchandise I guess, even today.

That top card sends a lot of the same messages as the first card you showed us.. Notice how the mother is hunched over that little sewing machine in the first picture. Her work is a bunched up mess too. The machine's irons are spindly and plain and the furnishings in the rest of the room are simple and plain. The second picture has that nice Davis machine at a comfortable height on a nice looking Davis stand and the room is much nicer with large paintings and a marble fireplace. The lady's work is also nice and neat.
If you buy a Davis it's obvious your sewing troubles would be over.
