Pretty neat old trade cards. Having the drawn characters dressed so elegantly while sewing was probably recognized by folks back then as a blatant attempt to persuade shoppers into thinking they could look that smart if they only had the sewing machine being advertised. I doubt that the average woman back then would do her sewing in her finery in the privacy of her own home. More than likely, she would wear some old something that didn’t hurt to get stray threads on it. And something suitable for leaving the sewing machine to take care of other household chores both indoors and out during her busy day. However, smartly dressed models sell the most merchandise I guess, even today.

Have you seen any trade cards of men using the latest sewing machine?
