In your case , 1-1/3 yards = 48", so I would take some coordinating fabrics (at least 6-8), cut them in various widths and cut your center fabric and insert the coordinating fabrics to make the center fabric longer, but at least 71" long. Add a 2-1/2" wide border around the center fabric. Then, using the same coordinating fabrics, cut various width strips and sew them together. Cut the strip sets to the width that you would like piano keys (I usually do 6"-8", sew the strip sets together, then measure and cut the borders. Add a solid border, then quilt and bind.

Using these measurements, you will have a quilt approximately 60" x 90" and according to my "cheat sheet", a twin is usually about 68" x 88".

Great Idea--thanks. Any pictures??

Have you checked the eQuilter website (www.eQuilter.com)? Luanne has been coming up with a lot of free patterns for large print/panels lately.

As a matter of fact, I've been on that site the last two days off and on.

This is one of my favorites... using big 18" squares of your focus fabric.

I love this, also. THANKS!! It's BQ 3 by Maple Island Quilts.

I took a panel and cut it horizontally and vertically and inserted black strips. This made it appear to be looking through a window at a scene. Perhaps something like this would work for you.

I've used the maryquilt quick strippie quite a bit. In fact, I just enlarged it with a rather large piece of fabric I bought for about 33cents, added strips and an alternating color and I like it.

Also, up and down strips...

Let me show you. This first one is the Mary quilts quick strippie with borders added.

Here's one for a double quilt. The fabric is heavy and I didn't want to work with small pieces.

(I'm sure it's an acrylic/poly or something--not cotton).

And here are a couple of up and down tops I've made from VERY large prints:

justflyingin---that helps a lot to see---this is actually a thought I had of working with this piece as suggested by another board member. So many decisions.
