    I've seen fabric so messed up from "ironing" that the quilt was very much out of whack when it shouldn't have been.
    With steam you really do need to "press" (ie iron placed on fabric then lift off) and not "iron" (ie moving the iron around on top of the fabric).

    Vital when steaming ... more forgiving if dry.

    I finger press until the block is complete, then steam press the finished block on both sides.
