I've been taught that steaming can distort the fabric, but it was a hard lesson for me to learn. I can see how using steam and moving the iron across the fabric can move the fibers from each other.
I've seen fabric so messed up from "ironing" that the quilt was very much out of whack when it shouldn't have been.
