I just finished the piecing on my first quilt top (thought I did). It’s just charms sewn together, nothing fancy. It’s for a Cal King bed. I made it 16 charms wide X 15 charms long. Once on the bed, hubby thinks I should forgo the border and just add more charms and a binding. Is this “okay” to do?

I do think it will look just fine with no border.

there are no rules that say you have to add a border :) so if you like it without, go for it!

i prefer quilts without plain borders. especially if you just put one on just to make the quilt bigger. it's your quilt, whatever you do will be the right thing to do.

Definitely ok! No quilt police would even think of arguing with you. Your quilt do as you please. Would love to see a pic when you finish.

There are a surprising number of quilts out there without borders! If it looks good, go for it. Just remember to handle it carefully around the edges when you're quilting it.

Here's a scrappy-looking (actually it's about 30 fabrics) quilt I made with no borders. You can just see the binding on the side that's hanging over the bed, it's dark brown.
